Ebb & Flow Jewelry

Here at Ebb & Flow, we are doing a full Spring overhaul of our jewelry box. That means getting rid of the old and making our favourites look new again. If you love and wear your gold filled jewelry as much as we do, odds are it may have lost a bit of the shine it once used to carry. Though gold filled jewelry does not tarnish easily like silver, frequent wearing and handling can leave it looking dull. So let's get our sparkle back by following along with our top tips for protection and cleaning.

How do I clean and protect GOLD FILLED jewelry?

1 -Keep away from chemicals.

Though we may not realize it, cleansers, cosmetics, fragrances, lotions, and chlorine are no-nos for our jewelry. Be mindful and remove your jewelry when doing any household cleaning or applying any of the above chemicals.

2- Store your pieces safely

When not wearing your favourite pieces, tuck them into an airtight container to protect them from any humidity in the air and prevent scratches.

3- USE A POLISHING CLOTH

Time Length: Instant

What you will need:

A classic soft polishing cloth will gently remove any oils, lotions, or makeup that have gotten on your jewelry. This technique is best used for any jewelry that needs a quick and easy cleaning.

*Always use a soft hand to avoid over-polishing and corroding your pieces.

4- gENTLy SOAK AND BRUSH

Time Length: 5-20 minutes

You will Need:

Dish detergent (we like Dawn), soft toothbrush (optional), dry cloth

Steps:

1. Add dish detergent and warm water into a bowl. Place your jewelry in the bowl and let sit.
2. Depending on how dirty your pieces are, using your fingers to rub the jewelry may be enough. But if you need a deeper clean, use a soft toothbrush to help scrub any darker colour that's sticking around.
- If you need an even deeper clean, add a few drops of detergent directly to the toothbrush and gently scrub.
3. Rinse with warm water and completely dry with a cloth.

5- use an ULTRASONIC MACHINE

Time Length: Dependent on the machine

This type of machine is a great option if you have a lot of gold-filled jewelry. It uses ultrasound waves to clean away oil and dirt, while also polishing your jewelry.

You will Need:

Ultrasonic machine, designated cleaner, water.

Steps:

In general, you will add water to the machine and set the timer and temperature before pouring in a cleaning solution. *Always make sure to check the manual first.

*INSIDER TIP*
If the black comes out of your hand-stamped pieces while cleaning, colour it in with a black Sharpie and rub away the excess with a paper towel and rubbing alcohol. This provides more depth and visibility to your stamp!
